Understanding How To Bake Like A Pro

Keeping Rolls And Buns Fresh For As Long As Possible

If you just ordered or made fresh kaiser rolls or buns, you are most likely excited about eating these bread products in the near future. It is important to take some steps in the protecting your rolls or buns from prematurely drying out or molding. Here are some tips you can use to keep your bread fresh for as long as possible so you can enjoy it for several days.

Make Sure Rolls Or Buns Are Cooled

If you baked homemade rolls or buns, it is important you allow them to cool in their entirety before you store them. Place the bread on a cooling rack and leave it in a room temperature area for an hour or two to allow the baking process to cease in its entirety. When the rolls or buns are cool to the touch, you can start your storage process to aid in maintaining freshness.

Wrap The Bread To Keep It Fresh

It is important to wrap your rolls or buns inside of foil or a plastic storage bag. If you use foil, make sure it completely encases the bread you are storing as any exposed portions will be subject to drying or mold. Wrap each roll or bun individually and check the sides to make sure the foil covers each one in its entirety. If you use a plastic storage bag, push all excess air from inside before you seal the lip area. Any air left in the bag will aid in drying the bread quicker.

Know Where To Store Your Bread

If you intend on eating the rolls or buns within the next few days, they can be left in an area at room temperature. Many believe that placing bread inside of a refrigerator will help it to stay fresher for longer. This actually has the opposite effect and the rolls or buns will dry at a faster rate than if they were left in a basket or container inside of foil or a bag. The taste may also be altered if you store the items in a refrigerator for any length of time.

If you are not going to be eating your bread right away, it should be wrapped and stored inside of a freezer instead. This is the best way for the rolls or buns to retain their freshness. When it comes time to eat the items, simply place the wrapped items on a baking rack so they will warm to room temperature at an even rate.
